Friday, November 30, 1906 Macon, Georgia, November 29 - HORACE SMITH, a young man who was a visitor of the home of DOCK JONES, near Winterville, Georgia, Wednesday, November 28, 1906, was ordered to leave as he was under the influence of liquor. While going down the front steps, JONES shot SMITH, killing him instantly and someone shot JONES through the head and he fell dead near his own victim. Sunday, February 15, 1953 An elderly Negro man was beheaded by a switch engine and the 42 cars it pulled Saturday afternoon, February 14, 1953 as he lay on the tracks of the Virginian Railway in South Norfolk. South Norfolk Police identified him, of 3100 McKinley Avenue. They gave his age as between 60 and 65. The tragedy occurred at about 12:40 pm when the engineer of the switch engine saw him lying across the tracks too late to stop. The engineer, J.L. SLAGLE, told the police he did not see him until his engine was only "10 car lengths" away. The medical examiner late Saturday night, had not ruled out foul play. He said any ruling made will be influenced by an autopsy to be performed Sunday, February 15, 1953. Jesse

Mrs. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church Campostella where she served as the financial secretary, a member of Usher Board No. 2, and was active with the Youth Ministry. She was also the secretary for the Southside Civic League. She was predeceased by her husband, Iris L. Jones Sr. She is survived by two daughters, Veronica Y. Jones of Chesapeake and Jennifer Holmes and her husband, William, of Norfolk; three sons, Darryl L. Jones, Iris L. Jones Jr. and his wife, Joann, and Kevin L.
