Died on Sunday, December 8, 1906 at 11:30 pm at his home, No 718 West Brambleton Avenue. He was in the 38th year of his age. Remains will be taken from the residence of his brother, No 822 Tunstall Avenue, to St Mary's Catholic Church for services Tuesday, December 11, 1906 at 9:30 am. Friends of the family are invited to attend. He is survived by a brother, M.J. WHITE. The service was conducted by Rev Father JAMES A. WHITE of St John's Catholic Church, Baltimore, who is his cousin. Rev Father DOHERTY occupied a seat in the sanctuary. There was a beautiful display of floral tributes. The remains were laid to rest in St Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers: M.J. MADDEN, T.M. CASHIN, B.F. GOODSON, S.F. KING, LOUIS BURLASS, E.J. MCDERMOTT, JAMES P. MOLLAND and JAMES SCULLION. At 6:00 pm Wednesday, October 10, 1906, Miss Iva East, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank East and Harry Okeson White were united in the bonds of matrimony. The ceremony took place at the First Church of Christ (Disciples) and the celebrant was the Rev J.T.T. Hundley, pastor of the church. The bride was costumed in a going away gown of blue cloth, with hat and gloves to correspond and carried a bouquet of bride's roses. The maid of honor was Miss Eva Bull. She was attired in a gown of yellow silk mull and carried a shower bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums. W. Roland Miller assumed the title of best man, while the ushers were: E.L. Speight, L.B. Sleet, T.R. White and A.R. Miller. The wedding over, Mr. and Mrs. White left for a bridal trip north. On their return, they will reside on Holt Street.

Wednesday, October 10, 1906 at 5:50 pm, Miss Annie Wilson White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Turner White, was married to Mr. Howard White, formerly a resident of this city, but lately of Raleigh, North Carolina. The ceremony was performed by Rev Arthur Thurson at the home of the bride's parents, No 810 Court Street, in the presence of the immediate family. The bride was attired in a tailor made suit of blue broadcloth with hat and gloves to match. She carried lilies of the valley and brides roses, caught with white tulle. The bride was given away by her sister, Mrs. Sergeant of New Orleans. Miss Sadie Wilkins played the organ. Immediately after the ceremony, the couple left for a trip to Washington and Baltimore. Before returning home, they will visit Mr. White's parents in Mathews County.

RALEIGH -- John Watson White, a former resident of Aulander, N.C., for 67 years, died June 1, 1998, in Mayview Nursing Home, Raleigh. Mr. White was born in Bertie County and was a member of Aulander Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a former member of the Aulander Masonic Lodge No. 516 AF & AM and a member of the Aulander Ruritan Club. John was a 1949 graduate of North Carolina State University and was the manager of the N.C. State basketball team. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors include three daughters, Cindy W. Bordeaux and her husband, Rick, Chelsea Blake, Kim White Snow and her husband, Steve, all of Raleigh; a son, Edward Watson White and his wife, Eleanor, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Amanda Bordeaux, Patrick Bordeaux, Will Snow, all of Raleigh, and a grandchild to be born in July, Tanner Edward White of San Diego, Calif. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Aulander Baptist Church by the Rev. Robbie Parker. Burial will be in Aulander Cemetery. Margaret White Midgett, 87, formerly of Rochelle Drive, died Jan. 2, 2000, in Winslow's Memorial Home. She was a native of Elizabeth City and was the daughter of the late Julian Josiah and Leta Andrews White and the widow of the late Lorimer W. Midgett. She was a member of the City Road United Methodist Church, a member of the Albemarle Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer for many years for the American Cancer Society and helped with the local bloodmobile drives. She was a former member of the board of directors for Centura Bank. Mrs. Midgett is survived by one brother, Joseph White of Elizabeth City, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew White and Sidney White. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Old Hollywood Cemetery by the Rev. Charles McKenzie. The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford's Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or to City Road United Methodist Church. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. White was a member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed painting and ceramics. Prior to moving to Ft. Myers, Mrs. White had been active in an area Senior Citizens Club, where she played the piano. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Morris of Elizabeth City, Murray Midgett of Chesapeake and Medie White of Chesapeake. Mrs. White is survived by a daughter, Norma Talbot of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Annie Tomsett of Virginia Beach; a stepson, Leo Midgett of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Thomas Talbot and wife, Elizabeth, of Fairfax, Va., Mary Broda and husband, William, of Charlotte, N.C., Veronica Garcia and husband, Raymond, of Mereno Valley, Calif., and Valerie Price and husband, Todd, of Norwalk, Calif.; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at noon Monday at Twiford's Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, by Pastor James Dunn. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 19, 1953 at 3:00 pm at the Toxey, Berry and Lynch Funeral Home by the Rev WALTER OMAN, pastor of the Corinth Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hyland Park Cemetery. Pallbearers: J.C. SMALL Senior, R.E. WYNN, CARSON DAVIS, MILES BRITE, J.D. SYKES and CLARENCE TATUM.

A 49 year old man, who apparently bled to death through a deep slash near the elbow on his left arm, was found dead Monday morning, February 23, 1953 in the Union Mission, 819 East Main Street. Homicide Detectives E.M. TOWE and RODGER LONGMIRE said he was lying in his bed and was found by a man they named as R.D. SMITH. The death was ruled a suicide.

Story sample: Raymond Petrie White Sr., 84, of the 700 block of New York Ave., died Aug. 17, 1995. Mr. White was a long-time resident of Norfolk and was born in 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was drafted by the New York Yankees out of high school, captained the Columbia University baseball team, and first came to Norfolk in 1934 as a pitcher for the Norfolk Tars.
