Courtland, December 4 - Age 64, well known resident of the Courtland community died Thursday, December 4, 1952 at his home near Courtland after an illness for several months. He was the son of J. FRANK and REBECCA JOYNER WILLIAMS of Southampton County. He is survived by 4 brothers, J. CLYDE WILLIAMS of Sedley; M.L. and L.L. WILLIAMS both of Courtland and R.J. WILLIAMS of Richmond; 1 sister, Mrs. G.T. HUNDLEY of Sedley. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home, Franklin, pending funeral arrangements.

Driver, Virginia, October 13 - The marriage of Miss Bertha Williamson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Williamson of this place to Lawrence James Giles of Clifton Forge, Virginia, was solemnized in the Nansemond Baptist Church here at 4:00 pm Wednesday, October 10, 1906. Dr. W.V. Savage performed the ceremony. The church was decorated in pink and green, the color scheme of the occasion. Palms, ferns and pink blossoms banked the altar, concealing the organ and organist. Arches of evergreen, among which glowed myriads of lighted candles, spanned the aisles and beneath a large arch of the same decoration, the happy pair were united. The little ribbon girls, Elizabeth Williamson and Marguerite Harrell, untied the pink ribbons between the arches. The bridesmaids wore frocks of white Japanese silk and lace, with girdles of pink panne velvet and pink slippers and carried large bouquets of pink La France roses. The bridesmaids and ushers entered by opposite aisles. Miss Regina Williamson with John R. Payne Jr, Miss Rennei Buxton with Hanford Bell, Miss Mary Henray Williams with Dr. W.G. Chrisman and Miss Ellen Carpenter with Jesse H. Williamson, brother of the bride. The maid of honor, Miss Ethel Williamson, sister of the bride, wore a gown of pink crepe de chine and carried bride's roses. Immediately preceding the bride, came the ring bearer, little Miss Mary Frances Hargraves. The bride, attired in green velvet with hat to match and carrying a bouquet of white bride's roses, entered the church leaning on the arm of her father and was met at the altar by the groom, who was attended by his cousin, Marvin McCrary Giles, as best man. The wedding march was played by Mrs. J.C. Wilroy. A reception was tendered the bridal party Tuesday night, October 9, 1906 at the home of the bride's parents. Among the numerous gifts received were a silver dish, gift of the Driver Book Club of which the bride was a member and a full table set of Venetian Lace, brought from Venice by one of the bridesmaids. The bride, who is talented musician and extremely popular among both the younger and older set, comes of one of the oldest and best known families in eastern Virginia. The groom is a son of the late Samuel M. Giles of Augusta County, Virginia, who served as a gallant soldier in the Confederate Army. Mr. and Mrs. Giles left on the 5:00 pm train for Norfolk, where they boarded a steamer for New York. They will visit Niagara, the Great Lakes and a number of western cities. Mr. and Mrs. Giles will reside in Clifton Forge, where they will be at home to their friends after October 25.

Wife of THOMAS V. WILLIAMSON and the daughter of the late LAWRENCE A. and Mrs. SALLY RIED LATHROP, a lifelong resident of Norfolk, died at a Norfolk hospital Thursday, December 17, 1953 at 3:00 am. She was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church and resided at 237 Ethel Avenue. Besides her husband, she is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. WILLIAM T. DAUGHTREY of Norfolk; 1 son, CLAY V. WILLIAMSON of Fredericksburg and 1 grandson, WILLIAM T. DAUGHTREY of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the Ewell and Williamson Funeral Home Saturday, December 19, 1953 at 2:00 pm by Dr JASON LEON MACMILLAN, pastor emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers: P.B. WHITE, DARIEN DAUGHTREY, W.A. LEARY, HARRY FUNK, C.E. SCHOOLS, B.B. BAXTER and A.G. WILLIAMSON.
