He had been a member of the Virginia Bar Association since 1974 and represented the 15th Judicial Circuit as a member of the council of the Virginia State Bar and was a member of its Legal Ethics Committee. Cape Charles, Virginia, Dec 5 - Died while attempting to paint frame work under the dynamo on the N.Y.P. and N. Steamer "New York" at Cape Charles at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 5, 1906. He was an oiler and was caught by the flywheel and his neck instantly broken. Surgeon KEMAN was called to attend him, but found on examination that his neck was broken and face and neck horribly mutilated. He is the brother of Capt JOHN ASHBY, captain of N.Y.P. and N. Tug "Salisbury" and Mrs. J.W. FROST, of Hampton, with whom he made his home. He was 21 years of age and had been in the employ of the N.Y.P. and N. Railway for a number of years. The body was taken to Old Point Comfort, Virginia Friday, December 7, 1906 and sent to Hampton for interment.

Miami, Florida, Dec 16 - died Tuesday, December 16, 1952 at Doctors Hospital in suburban Coral Gables. He was president of the University of Miami. He was 67 and a native of Scottdale, Penns. University authorities immediately announced there would be no class Wednesday, December 17, 1952. He suffered what was described as a cerebral accident Friday, November 7, 1952 while lunching with friends. He was rushed to a hospital where his condition was described as "serious but not critical". Doctors said that cerebral accident could best be described as a kind of stroke. He appeared to be improving but another cerebral accident a few days ago caused a setback.
